2026 Incidents

At 16:05 the South Essex Fire Department were dispatched to 245 Franklin in Maplewood for a report of a structure fire in the attic. At 16:10 the fire was confirmed with heavy smoke from the top floor. A second alarm was declared shortly after. At 16:13 county dispatched a Orange Engine, Irvington Engine and Ladder as well as a West Orange Engine as the FAST team on the second alarm assignment. Shortly after a signal nine was given to Newark for coverage which brought Engine 18, Ladder 5. Ladder 81 was sent to open the roof, crews made entry and completed a primary search and at 16:21 the bulk of the fire was knocked as well as the primary search returning negative. Mutual aid was released shortly after and overhaul began. The red cross was contacted for the displaced residents.
