2026 Incidents

At 7:17 the Montclair Fire Department was dispatched to 85 Elm Street for a possible structure fire, the units were Engine 1, Engine 3, Truck 1, Squad 4, and Car 4. Caller reported the top floor was filling with black smoke. At 7:19 a second alarm was transmitted, that would bring a RIT team from out of town as well as two engines and a truck for house coverage. At 7:21 a Orange Engine was requested to the scene as the RIT team. At 7:22 crews reported fire showing basement on the C side. At 7:25 they had water on the fire. At 7:26 the house coverage units were requested directly to the scene. By 7:27 the Orange Engine had arrived on scene. At 7:30 Squad 4 reported heavy smoke conditions preventing them from making a proper search, they notified command they would start taking out some of the windows. By 7:32 a primary search was complete and negative for the basement per Truck 1. Shortly after a primary search of the second floor was completed and negative as well. At 7:39 a PAR check was complete as well as a primary search of the third floor returning negative. At 7:41 red cross was notified for seven people displaced. By 7:47 the fire was placed under control, the main body of fire was knocked. At 8:01 a second PAR was completed. Overhaul was started which included opening up ceilings and walls, checking for additional extension and more. By 8:33 Orange Engine was released from the scene as well as the Bloomfield Engine. Companies continued overhaul and were released throughout the next hour. By 10:56 the scene was released by the investigator to the homeowner.
